Who’s the Number 1 Printer Manufacturer in the Asian Pacific Market?

If you thought HP and Epson were big names in inkjet printing let’s not forget the Japanese company Canon. According to research and analyst firm IDC, when it comes to the Asian Pacific market “Canon is the number one player in the inkjet printer category” with a share of 41% followed by Hewlett-Packard with a share of 36%. India is the only country within the realm of the Asian pacific region where Canon comes in second, behind HP. But that doesn’t mean Canon is far behind. According to an article in Business Standard, Canon aims to increase the number of it’s stores in India from the present 80 to 300 by the end of 2014. It also plans to make it’s products available in stores selling multiple brands from the 850 stores as of now to 2,500 stores across the nation by the end of 2015. “We had seen phenomenal growth in the inkjet category in India during the last one year by improving our market share from 16 per cent in 2011 to 23 per cent in the Q3 of 2012. Canon Factory Closure May Reduce Availability of Canon and HP Ink and Toner

One of Japan’s biggest names in electronics manufacturing, Canon Inc. has shut down operations at three of four of its plants in China following massive anti-Japanese protests in China recently over Japan’s acquisition of the Diaoyu islands (known as the Senkaku islands in Japan) from a “private Japanese owner,” that China claims belong to them. According to NBC News “the move incensed Beijing” and has led to many Japanese major manufacturing plants like Toyota, Honda and Panasonic including shops and restaurants being attacked by angry protesters. Canon has halted “production lines at its laser printer factory in Guangdong, a digital camera factory in Guangdong, and a copier plant in Jiangsu, Japanese media reported.” Ratcheting up tensions further on Monday, Chinese state media warned Japan it could suffer another “lost decade” if trade ties soured. Japan counted China as its top trade partner last year, with total two-way trade of more than $340 billion. If things don’t ease up soon it can not only send “relations between Asia’s two biggest economies into crisis,” but also affect business on a local and international scale.
