Who’s the Number 1 Printer Manufacturer in the Asian Pacific Market?

If you thought HP and Epson were big names in inkjet printing let’s not forget the Japanese company Canon. According to research and analyst firm IDC, when it comes to the Asian Pacific market “Canon is the number one player in the inkjet printer category” with a share of 41% followed by Hewlett-Packard with a share of 36%. India is the only country within the realm of the Asian pacific region where Canon comes in second, behind HP. But that doesn’t mean Canon is far behind. According to an article in Business Standard, Canon aims to increase the number of it’s stores in India from the present 80 to 300 by the end of 2014. It also plans to make it’s products available in stores selling multiple brands from the 850 stores as of now to 2,500 stores across the nation by the end of 2015. “We had seen phenomenal growth in the inkjet category in India during the last one year by improving our market share from 16 per cent in 2011 to 23 per cent in the Q3 of 2012. We are optimistic that the strong marketing initiatives we have undertaken and the new range of ink efficient […]

How to Start Your Own Ink and Toner Business

A recent story we read in the Southern Business Journal is the inspiration for today’s post. Titled, “Milligan’s business all done from home” it relates the story of Jim Milligan who started his own ink and toner business from home and is doing well for himself, even after competition from the big office chain stores. After working as a copy repairman he discovered the demand for ink and toner cartridges and began remanufacturing toner cartridges and reselling them at affordable prices. His intention was also to maintain a small carbon footprint and try and keep as much out of the landfills as possible. So how is Milligan helping his community by selling toner? Today, Milligan sells his remanufactured or “recycled” toner cartridges at 30 to 40 percent less than new cartridges. He has helped Harrisburg schools raise money by donating empty toner cartridges to them that are then sold to various organizations that pay for the product. “I give the cartridges to the Harrisburg schools. They box ’em up and get credit for it,” Milligan said. Milligan remains a steward of the environment citing a statistical fact found on one of the environmental web sites stating 3 quarts of petroleum […]

Looking to Buy a Photo Printer? Check Out These 5 Tips Before You Buy

Five tips to consider before buying a photo printer: 1. Just photo printers vs. All-in-one printers All-in-one or multifunction printers do everything from printing to scanning to photocopying. A dedicated photo printer is just for printing photos. If you’re a serious photographer or need high-quality photos often you could consider buying a dedicated photo printer just for photos. Multifunction printers will do the job but the results might not be as sharp as you’d like. Photo printers also come with added features like an LCD display to crop, remove re-eye, do photo effects and more – right from the printer itself. 2. Portability If you need a portable printer that you can take from one place to another (an example is for real estate photos, conferences etc.) you need to consider printer size. A good example of a portable printer is the Canon SELPHY CP770 ($99.99 retail but on SALE NOW for $69.99). Weighing just under 2 lbs you can carry it just about anywhere.  If portability is not a concern, consider a larger printer that will give you the option for doing large sized prints. 3. Know your ink You can find photo printers that use two different printing […]

7 Killer Tips to Save $$$ on Your Everyday Printing Costs

No matter if you’re part of a large corporation, own a small business or work from home everyone would like to save and cut down on their daily operational costs of running their business. When it comes to printing here are top 7 tips to help you save on your everyday printing expenses: 1) Understand what you need: Don’t go for a printer deal that looks too good to be true – this can end up costing you in the long run. Approximate how many prints you’ll need on a daily basis and what you need to print and then decide on a printer that’s right for you. 2) Pick the right printer: If you need to print only a handful pages in a day an inkjet printer will suffice. If you’re printing large volumes consider the speed, efficiency and low cost per print of a laser printer. 3) A word about colour printers: A black and white or monochrome laser printer is sufficient for regular bulk office document printing. Understand that colour printing costs way more than black and white so only use colour when you absolutely need to. 4) Cartridge choice matters: If you plan to go with […]
