Top 3 Ways to Know if You’re Buying a Compatible Ink or Toner Cartridge

Printer ink and toner cartridges come in a variety of different formats. Many people believe that the only option available to them are branded or OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) ink and toner cartridges. And although the branded cartridges give you the printing quality you desire, you might find that they run out fairly quickly and you’re shelling out a lot of money month after month for them. So what are the alternatives? Since the last decade or so compatible and remanufactured ink and toner cartridges have been a lifesaver for many frustrated consumers tired of paying over-the-top prices for printer cartridges. Branded manufacturers have used all the tools in their arsenal to sway people away from buying aftermarket toner, including saying that they cause printer damage, they’ll void your warranty, you won’t get the same quality prints, and they’ve even installed chips in their cartridges for their printers to detect their cartridges only, in an attempt to stop consumers from buying third-party cartridges. But after all that, the aftermarket ink and toner cartridge business is still booming. And yes, to a certain degree we agree that cheap knock-offs have flooded the market but there are also many reliable suppliers that [...]

A Run Down on Remanufactured Cartridges

Remanufactured cartridges – you’ve heard all about them but if you’re still unclear about exactly what they are, how they’re made and how they compare to branded cartridges, read on.  OEM or branded ink and toner manufacturers produce cartridges that are one-use, meaning that you can use the cartridge only once and then you either throw it out or if you care about the planet, give it in for recycling. You’ll be surprised at how many people just throw out an empty cartridge and replace it with a new one. The cartridges that are sent in for recycling are adopted by third party manufacturers who have made it their business to refurbish empty cartridges. What is a remanufactured toner cartridge? It is an OEM or branded cartridge that undergoes recycling and is refilled with fresh toner. Most OEM brands including HP, Canon, Samsung, Brother and Lexmark are all able to be refurbished. It’s extending the life of a cartridge and prolonging its life cycle. How are toner cartridges remanufactured? Empty cartridges are collected, sorted and in the remanufacturing facility they are opened and dismantled. All broken or damaged components are replaced with new ones and then the cartridge is reassembled [...]

Top 3 Questions to Ask Before Buying Remanufactured Toner Cartridges

Not all remanufactured toner cartridges are created equal. Buying aftermarket toner can be a daunting experience if you don’t know where to buy your cartridges from or what to look for. However, after you find the right supplier remanufactured toner cartridges can help you save hundreds of dollars over time and actually exceed OEM cartridges in quality and yield. Let’s say you’re a small business and own a laser printer and want the best bang for your buck when you buy laser toner – here are some questions to ask potential suppliers before you buy third-party toner: 1. When you test for page yield and density what are your numbers? The page yield is how many pages on average a cartridge is able to deliver before it runs out of toner. Standard testing is done at 5% page coverage and a reliable supplier usually uses a toner head in the testing phase. Be aware of vendors who will just tell you the OEM yield, this means they may not perform their own in-house testing. How deep is the colour? Is the black really black? How sharp are the prints? All this comes down to the density. The density standard for [...]

Toner Cartridges – A Flashback in History

Available in black and three sporting colours – magenta, yellow and cyan – the toner cartridge has become a staple in today’s modern office. The first toner cartridge technology emerged around 35 years ago in the late seventies. Looking back now most people may not have envisioned how toner would evolve and where it would take the printing industry decades later. Toner technology was accepted by the major printer brands, because toner was fast drying, was more cost-effective to consumers when they printed in volumes and because the brands made good money in recurring toner cartridge sales month after month. But toner cartridges weren’t always replaceable back in the day. Upon their arrival, printers were constructed with built in fixed toner cartridges, so much so that they could not be removed. When users realized that they had to replace the entire printer when the toner ran out, this method became redundant almost, with no one wanting to pay a high price over and over again. The first toner cartridges only came in black, and in fact black toner is still one of the most popular toner choices in the market today. Colour toner cartridges can prove to be expensive, even [...]
