Can Buying an Expensive Printer Save You More Money in Ink or Toner?

Purchasing the printer you want, especially one that fits in your budget, should be simple right? Unfortunately it isn’t. Buying an inkjet printer or a laser printer has more to do with doing your homework on how much it’s going to cost you to run the printer – in terms of buying ink or toner for the printer. You’ll soon find that cartridges can quickly cost a lot more than the printer you bought and if you’re looking for a economical printer you’ll have to consider how much your printer ink or toner costs depending on how much printing you’re planning on doing. Here are a few factors to consider right off the bat as published in an article titled Ink-onomics: Can You Save Money By Spending More on Your Printer? by PCWorld: The cheaper the printer, the more expensive its inks. We’ve tracked the prices of 56 inkjet MFPs over the past two years, and the average cost per page for inks destined for a cheap printer (which we define as one costing less than $200) has consistently been higher than that for an expensive printer (one costing $200 or more). A good example is the comparison between a [...]

How to Print Securely Using Your Xerox Printer

Your Xerox printer or copier can cause serious security problems if you don’t protect your documents properly. Printers print all sorts of sensitive data including confidential documents, bills, invoices, prescriptions etc. that you don’t want others to get their hands on. If you don’t know how to protect your documents, now is the time to be serious about your Xerox printer security. Simple personal and home office printers – believe or not – are actually more secure than the newer multi-function printers you see in the market today. Why? Simply because they lack all the features like their own personal hard drive, their own OS (operating system) and a secure network connection like WIFI that most all-in-one printers are equipped with today. If you own a Xerox MFP you can follow a few simple steps offered by UBC.ca to ensure the documents you print are secure. The screenshots below will help you configure a security PIN to be setup before you print. How this works is that before you send a document to print, set up a PIN on your computer, walk over to your printer, enter the PIN and begin printing your document. Here’s how to do it: 1. [...]

Printer Troubleshooting for Mac Printer Users

Do you own a Mac? Frustrated because you just can’t get your printer to print? Try some of these tried and tested methods to get your printer to print with a Mac. 1. Notice the print dialog icon Press Command-P again if your first attempt to print fails. Notice the print dialog icon and check to see if you find a notification mark, click it and you may get a pop up explaining why the printer failed to print and how you can fix the issue. 2. Make sure printing is not paused Your printer may pause automatically especially in the case of a paper jam, or you might pause it yourself if you want to stop the printing for some reason, like sending the wrong version of a document to print. If your printer was paused the last time you printed, an error message might pop up. Click the “resume” button and this should often fix the issue. 3. Is your printer queue stuck? Check your print queue to see if there are any previous jobs in there that seem to be stuck. This can happen sometimes if let’s say you renamed a document and the previous version doesn’t [...]
