“Low on Ink”? Taking a Look at the Epson Chip Resetter

Do you get a “low on ink” warning even though you know you have plenty of ink left in your Epson ink cartridges? Most printer brands, like Epson, are designed to hold a “chip” in their printers that forces consumers to buy Epson branded cartridges as these are recognized by the printer. What this means is that third-party Epson compatibles, refilled Epson ink cartridges and remanufactured Epson ink cartridges, might still continue to show a frustrating “low on ink” warning because the printer does not recognize them. Epson printers are known for their excellent quality, vibrant and crisp printing and a lot of this has got to do with their great ink and high quality ink cartridges. Especially, if you’re printing photos or high-resolution graphics for brochures, flyers and marketing material, you can count on an Epson printer and cartridge to do the job. However there are many reliable suppliers in the market today that offer Epson ink cartridges that meet or even exceed OEM, or branded quality. For major printer manufacturers like Epson, this is not good news. You see, printer manufacturers don’t make most of their money selling printers, they make their money selling ink and toner for [...]

Ink and Toner News: Major Printer Brands Join EPEAT’s Registry to Showcase Greener Electronics

Top printer manufacturers like Epson, Canon, Xerox, Dell, Lexmark and Ricoh have recently added their printers and copiers to EPEAT’s green electronics registry. Samsung, Hewlett-Packard and Konica Minolta are not far behind and are in the process of getting their products registered as well. If you haven’t heard of EPEAT, here’s a quick overview: Launched in the year 2006, EPEAT is a registry that includes products from more than 50 manufacturers all across the globe. The company is spearheaded as a partnership between various sectors including businesses, NGOs, other stakeholders and also has some government intervention. Many consumers are now getting increasingly aware of what products they put their money into. Manufacturers who deliver green products that are free from toxic materials are sure to get a thumbs up by consumers, and companies are more than likely going to see a boost in their sales numbers as well. With EPEAT recently opening up its registry to include more than just computers, and have imaging equipment like printers, copiers, scanners and all-in-one machines that pass environmental tests on its registry, manufacturers didn’t take long to join in. And the criteria for getting added to the registry isn’t that simple as well [...]

Printing Professional Brochures for Your Business In-House

Brochures are a great way to advertise your products and services. A step ahead of business cards, brochures serve as a mini-catalogue for your business. Done professionally, a well-designed brochure can be an excellent marketing tool to help others learn about your business and what you do. If you’ve invested in a modern state-of-the art colour inkjet or laser printer you might find that printing brochures in-house can be a good idea. With a little bit of know-how, keen design sense and help from a few ready-made templates you’ll be all set to make professional-looking brochures from the comfort of your home or office. Designing your brochure If you outsource your brochure design to a graphic designer they’ll usually use software tools like Adobe InDesign, Corel Draw or a similar design program. Depending on the person you hire, you might end up spending a few hundred dollars to get the perfect brochure design. The software itself does not come cheap either – costing a few hundred dollars. It’s worth the investment if you plan to use it often (and want to invest the time in learning how), but if it sounds like too much work, here are some other options. [...]

With all the major OEM’s releasing new and improved inkjet printers catered to the small office, you begin to wonder, do inkjets really have a place in the office environment? In an interview published in ComputerWorld, Moorthy talks about why Epson is currently directing its major focus on inkjet printers and inkjet printing technology: CW questioned Moorthy about how Epson lags behind some other major brands when it comes to producing laser printers. After all “the laser printer segment share is quite substantial if you look at the overall printer market.” Moorthy: We do agree that today a large number of customers still prefer the laser printers. But the fact is that inkjet printers started to grow in the last two years, especially among business users. It is going to grow further in the times to come. Though the inkjet market saw a decline in volume, we as a brand have grown in this segment. Besides, if you look at the overall revenue of Inkjet printer market, I don’t think there was a decline. The customers that we have [...]

If you run a home office or a small to medium sized enterprise and are printing a couple hundred or so pages a week of both black and white and colour then you need to check out this latest printer model release from Epson. You might have considered purchasing a laser printer for speed, efficiency and low-cost but what many users don’t realize is that newer inkjet models today are equipped for speed and can in many cases also be cost-effective. Many organizations choose laser toner printers as toner dries instantly and they can grab paper copies while they’re still hot and they won’t smudge. But today’s inkjets also sport inks that not only dry fast but give vibrant presentation and brochure worthy prints. So if you need to print a few copies everyday and need a printer that can crank out some excellent colour prints on the fly, then an inkjet can be the printer of choice for you. Laser printers that use colour toner are more suited for large scale applications and companies that print in high volumes – the cost per page is no doubt less, but you’ll need to print volumes to justify the cost of [...]
