How to Spot a Counterfeit Ink or Toner Cartridge

You might think you got a great deal on that new HP cartridge you bought online, but how do you really know if you got a genuine HP product or a fake counterfeit? Fake ink and toner cartridges are all over the market and are available for all the top brands. Not to be confused with remanufactured or compatible cartridges that specifically mention that they are aftermarket or a third-party company, fake ink and toner are a trademark violation as they try to pass off as being a product manufactured by a major brand, also known as OEM cartridges. Counterfeit ink and toner have been allowed to flood the market, firstly because they are literally half the price of legitimate OEM ink and toner. Consumers see the attractive price tag and think they’re getting a great deal, whereas in fact not only are they buying a fake product, but they’re leaving their printer to all sorts of potential damage like ink and toner leaks etc. as these products use sub-standard components and cheap ink and toner. Here are some statistics reported by Gadget: According to the Imaging Supplies Coalition, an international non-profit trade association, annual losses to the imaging supplies industry [...]

“Low on Ink”? Taking a Look at the Epson Chip Resetter

Do you get a “low on ink” warning even though you know you have plenty of ink left in your Epson ink cartridges? Most printer brands, like Epson, are designed to hold a “chip” in their printers that forces consumers to buy Epson branded cartridges as these are recognized by the printer. What this means is that third-party Epson compatibles, refilled Epson ink cartridges and remanufactured Epson ink cartridges, might still continue to show a frustrating “low on ink” warning because the printer does not recognize them. Epson printers are known for their excellent quality, vibrant and crisp printing and a lot of this has got to do with their great ink and high quality ink cartridges. Especially, if you’re printing photos or high-resolution graphics for brochures, flyers and marketing material, you can count on an Epson printer and cartridge to do the job. However there are many reliable suppliers in the market today that offer Epson ink cartridges that meet or even exceed OEM, or branded quality. For major printer manufacturers like Epson, this is not good news. You see, printer manufacturers don’t make most of their money selling printers, they make their money selling ink and toner for [...]

Spot the Difference – An Ink Cartridge, a Print Head and a Toner Cartridge

Printers have become a necessity today. Everyone from home office users, to school kids who need to print homework to university going students needing to print their thesis, to moms looking for the perfect dinner recipe to small and large offices needing to print invoices, documents, bills and marketing material have all come to rely on the nimble printer to spit out pages of content they need quickly and efficiently. Therefore, to make sure your printer runs smoothly, without any hiccups, and to get the most out of your machine, it’s wise to understand the various components of printers and their basic functions. If there’s one thing you should definitely be informed about it’s the cartridges your printer uses. Your printer simply can’t function without them, and they are one of the most important elements to making sure you get good, crisp printing results. Print heads VS Printer cartridges Also important to understand is the print head found in printers. Hailing in as one of the most costly components of your printer, the print head in an inkjet printer consists of a nozzle that holds the ink tank, a resistor that controls the flow of ink, a case that ensures [...]

Top 3 Ways to Know if You’re Buying a Compatible Ink or Toner Cartridge

Printer ink and toner cartridges come in a variety of different formats. Many people believe that the only option available to them are branded or OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) ink and toner cartridges. And although the branded cartridges give you the printing quality you desire, you might find that they run out fairly quickly and you’re shelling out a lot of money month after month for them. So what are the alternatives? Since the last decade or so compatible and remanufactured ink and toner cartridges have been a lifesaver for many frustrated consumers tired of paying over-the-top prices for printer cartridges. Branded manufacturers have used all the tools in their arsenal to sway people away from buying aftermarket toner, including saying that they cause printer damage, they’ll void your warranty, you won’t get the same quality prints, and they’ve even installed chips in their cartridges for their printers to detect their cartridges only, in an attempt to stop consumers from buying third-party cartridges. But after all that, the aftermarket ink and toner cartridge business is still booming. And yes, to a certain degree we agree that cheap knock-offs have flooded the market but there are also many reliable suppliers that [...]
