There’s been a lot of buzz lately about buying local products. If you live in Canada or the U.S., buying local can help to support local business owners and in turn help job growth. The uniforms worn by American Olympic athletes in the opening ceremonies, for example, drew major criticism, and didn’t make too many Americans happy. Above is a recent newscast video on WSILTV.com, where some people who sell products manufactured on home ground say it’s important that people continue to support local for local businesses to thrive: For people like Milligan, who sells American-made HP toner products, buying merchandise with the “Made in USA” stamp is important for his future. “American jobs, everything is going to Japan, China, Mexico, and we gotta stop the bleeding somewhere,” said Jim Milligan. However, some economists feel that one doesn’t have to buy everything made on home soil, and that doesn’t necessarily help the economy. “We only import about 17 percent of the things that we buy. It’s just when we go to Walmart or Target or these stores and see made in China plastered everywhere we think all these products are coming from China,” said Sylwester.
